Documentary to Follow Chess Players to Cuba

A new documentary film by director Karney Hatch (“Overdrawn!”, “Plant This Movie”) is currently in pre-production.  The film will focus on a group of chess players from Texas Tech University, including WCM Claudia Munoz, as they travel to Cuba for a friendly tournament in Cayo Coca and then the Capablanca Memorial Tournament in Matanzas.

The goal of the film is to not only capture the excitement of chess culture in Cuba and the stories of Munoz and the other players on her team, but also to use chess as a window into life in Cuba in 2017.  To that end, Hatch was able to find a Cuban filmmaker, David Moreno, to assist with the production of the film.  With filming set to begin in just a few weeks in Cuba, Hatch and Munoz are raising money through a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo to cover the costs of producing the film.
